WHAT PARENTS NOTICE
MORE THAN A SPORT
Jiu-jitsu gives kids something screens can't: real challenges, real progress and a team in their corner. Here's what changes.
CONFIDENCE
They learn to stand tall, speak up and have a go at things that feel hard.
LISTENING & FOCUS
Structured classes teach them to listen first, follow instructions and stay on task.
RESILIENCE
They learn to win well, lose well and keep showing up.
STANDING UP TO BULLYING
They learn to stay calm, set boundaries and protect themselves without needing to fight.
HEALTHY ENERGY & ROLE MODELS
A physical outlet that leaves them tired and happy, with coaches and older students to look up to.

INSIDE A KIDS CLASS
WHAT HAPPENS ON THE MATS
Every class follows the same structure, so kids know what to expect and feel settled from the first day.
EXPECTATION SETTING & WARM-UP
We circle up, set our goals for the class and warm up with basic movement skills.
TECHNIQUE
I teach one or two techniques, broken into simple steps they can actually remember.
DRILLING & GAMES
They practise with a partner their size, then put it to the test in fun, competitive games.
SUPERVISED SPARRING
Age-appropriate, controlled rounds with multiple coaches at arm’s length to keep them safe.
Tapping is always respected.
DEBRIEF
We finish together, recap the lesson of the day, and line up for high fives as a team.
SAFETY & STANDARDS
SAFE, STRUCTURED AND SUPERVISED
Jiu-jitsu is one of the safest martial arts for kids, because there's no striking. But safe doesn't happen by accident. Here's how I run every class.
BLUE CARD COACHES
Every coach on the mats holds a current Working with Children Check.
FIRST AID TRAINED
Coaches are first aid certified, and a kit is always on hand.
MATCHED PARTNERS
|Kids are paired by age, size and experience, never thrown in the deep end.
EVERY ROUND SUPERVISED
Coaches stay at arm's length during sparring, and tapping is always respected.
RESPECT FIRST
Bullying and ego have no place on our mats. Kindness to training partners is non-negotiable.
CLEAN MATS
Mats are cleaned daily, and good hygiene is part of what we teach.

GOT QUESTIONS?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
No. Most people start out unfit, and I'll adjust every class to where you're at. Fitness comes from training; you don't need it before you start.
-
Arrive 10 minutes early and I'll meet you, show you around and sort a loan gi if you need one. Wear comfy sportswear with no zips or pockets, and bring a water bottle. You'll learn a few techniques with an experienced partner. There's zero commitment.
-
Memberships start from $36 per week. No lock-in contracts. After your trial I'll walk you through the options with no pressure.
-
Yes. Beginners start with controlled drilling, partners are matched by size and experience, and I supervise every round. Tapping is always respected, and I teach every student how to train safely from day one.
-
From 4. Kids train in their own age groups: 4–7, 8–12 and teens, so every class suits their size and attention span.
-
Yes. Beginners Gi runs Tuesday 6:30am and Wednesday 6pm, and Beginners No Gi runs Thursday 6:30am. You're also welcome in All Levels classes from your first week.
-
Not to start. I have loan gis for your trial, and I can help you buy the right one when you're ready. For no-gi classes, a shirt/rashguard and shorts are all you need.
-
Absolutely. Plenty of parents train in the adult classes while their kids do theirs, and some start at the same time as their kids. Parents are also welcome to watch from the side.
-
No. Competing is completely optional. Most of my students never compete, and every class is built for them.
-
Not at all. "Elite" is about the standard of coaching, not the standard you need to walk in with. I coach complete beginners right through to international champions.
